A day spent (mostly) sewing

Got up pretty early and cut the sashing to go between the rows and got them all sewn together.  I think that I'm ready for some smaller quilts.  This one is already 81.5" x 95" - the fact that pressing and sewing the seams on these big quilts is a big pain seems to slip my mind on a regulart basis.  I'll be happy when this top is all done.

Happy quilting :)

Forward Progress

Back in December, I posted a picture of a bunch of blocks completed at a weekend sew fest.  Remember these?

Well, the blocks have been languishing in my sewing room ever since and I have been sick of looking at them.  I took the bull by the horns on Friday and moved the living room furniture out of the way and laid the blocks out on the floor.

Cut 63 pieces of white sashing and sewed the blocks into rows.

Hung the finished rows up in the sewing room until the next time.  I still need to cut the sashing to put between the rows.

I also did another 5K last night, so added another bib number and a medal to the growing "valance" in my sewing room.  I have a few others from this year, but these are the most recent ones :)

This race was run in insane weather - we experienced stinging rain, thunder, lightning, hail and driving wind.  At the halfway point we were running through ankle deep puddles that completely covered parts of the roads.  About half the participants dropped out, but a bunch of us stuck it out and slogged our way to the finish line.  It was totally worth it.

By the way, I've given up trying to create blog posts from my iPad - can't seem to get them right :(

Dreaming of Autumn

I opened up my blog this morning and realized I had two posts the entire month of May...goodness!  However, looking back on the past month's activities, I guess I shouldn't be surprised.  It was a very busy one which included the end of the school year activities for Miss Em, a move for my daughter, three 5Ks, and no sewing whatsoever during the last half of the month :(

Since we are officially into the heat of summer here, I decided to make the backing for the Gold Rush quilt top and drop it off to be quilted next weekend.  This way it will be done in time for the first cool down in the fall - usually not until the end of October.  Since no post is complete without a picture, here you go.

I hope you're having a wonderful weekend!
