This one was made at Cinco de Mayo sewfest at one of my friend's houses in 2008. It is a bright scrappy quilt comprised of 3-strip rails and four patches. I found the perfect backing fabric - lime green with brightly-colored ladybugs all over it - it's one of her favorites. The yellow in the four patches winds up on the diagonal running through the quilt.
I feel very lucky because I have a very, very good friend who works for the same company as I. She has two sisters who are avid quilters and, of course we have friends who quilt as well. We do our best to get together at each other's homes every few months for a weekend of sewing, eating, drinking, chatting, more eating, more sewing.... It is wonderful! We hang around and sew in our PJ's. Normally, each of us takes one meal and does the cooking, so nobody gets stuck with all the work. It is wonderful too, because we wind up exchanging many favorite recipes while we're at it. Sometimes we have a themed sewfest for which we bring holiday-appropriate food and work on a special project that is planned out by the hostess. For the Cinco de Mayo sewfest we all made a version of the above quilt - it was a blast. We ate chips and salsa, chicken enchiladas, chile, and drank some sangria that was fabulosa!!!
